If you had comprehensive coverage in place at the time of damage, the fair cost of fully restoring your home to its pre-loss condition is due you. But you are not insured for the repairs of unrelated damage or deterioration, code deficiencies, or prior damage.

You are obligated to contract the services of a fully licensed, adequately insured and qualified restoration firm. If you do not choose to employ such a firm, the consequences and liability for any injury, damage, or other action may rest with you.

Repair rates should generally be in line with the prevailing standards in your area.

Laws are generally in place to prevent insurance companies from intentionally delaying a claim to push for a lower settlement. You are entitled to receive payment from the insurance company within the time specified by the policy and your state insurance regulations. But laws also impose conditions upon the claimant. You must submit your claim on time. Become aware of these guidelines early on. You must remain in compliance with established laws and contractual conditions.
